Networking Pavilions (10th July 2008) Print E-mail
Networking Pavilions are our answer to exhibitions - except without the frills. While we believe the trade expo has its place in the industry today, we realized that the best form of selling is one that thrives on soft-sell. Networking Pavilions are essentially tables that are set out at strategic locations within the convention center for the entire duration of the event. These tables or "pavilions" are exclusively hosted by various companies who use the platform to market their products and services.

There are only 10 TABLES available for booking and these are based on first-come, first-served basis. Each table comes with 2 x Forum Access Passes, 2 x Cocktail Special Invite Passes and promotion of Corporate Profile in our marketing collaterals for the Forum. The fee for each table is SGD3000. If you are interested to host a Pavilion Table, kindly email us at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Asia has been touted as the next economic zone in the world. In one of many youth surveys seeking to view of youth around the world on their views of the world today, Asians youth are the most optimistic of their economic development and available opportunities, compared to youths from Europe. However, while some youths may show passion, commitment and intelligence beyond their years, their level of maturity and motivation still leaves a lot to be desired. Many organizations complain of engaging young talents to subsequently losing them to bigger organization or losing them because they just lose their zeal. What we can do to ensure that the young talents can be properly groom and made to contribute to the society today? How do we engage Asian youths and young talents today that will raise their level of economic contribution and prepare them to assume the next generation leadership?

14.00 – 15.30    Panel DiscussionNetworking for Success

Many of us have heard of the “old boys’ network”. Essentially, we all realized that the senior professionals and those who do business with each other often have their own exclusive networking that enable them to come together to share and collaborate. How then do young professionals join such network? The fact remains that in our world today, what you know is not as important as who you know. As a young professional, joining the “old boys’ network” is often beyond their current means. Coupling this with the fact that networking at professional level can often be daunting and frightening for the younger ones. What can young ones learn from those who have successfully network for their own success? What must they do deliberately to ensure that they too can network for success?

Market Consolidations, Mergers and Acquisitions : Strategies for Success or Merely Exit Plans?

Marketing consolidation in logistics companies in Asia is inevitable, given the fragmented market environment against the economic growth and opportunities. Today, big boys such as DHL, UPS, Schenker, and Kuehne+Nagel continue to make big news in the industry in terms of companies they have acquired. Others, such as TNT has divested its logistics operations and concentrated its niche operations and build on its success. How should local logistics companies view consolidation and M&As in the midst of heightening competition and shrinking playing fields?

What exactly constitute Supply Chain Excellence? How can companies use this concept to build product branding and enhance competitiveness in the market? Training & Developments : Building and Grooming Talents

It’s an interesting phenomenon in Asia that many professionals treat classroom training as complete the moment they received their certifications or degrees. The pursue of certification does not necessary mean that one is qualified to perform a supply chain operations – unlike the medical, legal and accounting profession. 09.00 – 10.30
Session 1 – Supply Chain in Asia: Beyond India & China

Japan used to be the only economy in Asia that boasts the first world economy with strong domestic consumption supplemented by the 4 Asian tigers of Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Korea. India and China made their marks in their last decade and today dominate the economic scene – not just in Asia but the entire global arena. Today, in the name of economic growth, many countries in Asia are pro-business and this means the opening up of their economy as well as attracting in-flows of the ever growing Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). How can we expect Supply Chain in Asia to develop over the next few years, taking into consideration that the market is no longer just Japan, China or India? Will we witness the creation of new supply chain propositions in response to the growth of the entire Asian economies rather than just China and India alone?

Moderator: A/P Hum Sin Hoon, Executive Dean, National University of Singapore
Speakers:
Mr Paul Bradley, President, Arshiya International
Mr Michael Profitt, Managing Director, Dubai Logistics City
Mr Mark Wettasinghe, SVP & CIO, DHL
Mr Jimmy Khoo, Senior Vice President, UTStarcom
Mr Richard Loretto, Executive Director, Strategy, AVON
Mr Onno Boots, Regional Managing Director, TNT Express
Mr Turloch Mooney, Managing Director, Editorial, Supply Chain Asia

11.00 – 12.30
Session 2 – Consolidation and Growth: Niche versus Size

It was mentioned in one of the research that there is almost USD1 trillion fund available for venture capitalist and fund managers. This is one reason why we are witnessing consolidation in the supply chain industry over the last few years and we can expect to see more over the next few years as the industry continues to find its way out of the fragmentation and grow towards a professional and consistent structure. It also seems that there are some companies that are fixated with size and continually push towards this direction. Seriously, does size really matter? There are some companies who believe that mid or niche market is the way to go. But without the resources and depth, can these companies succeed against those with size and almost limitless resources?

Moderator: Mr Mark Millar, Director, Strategic Development, UPS
Speakers:
Dr Robert Yap, Chairman & CEO, YCH Group
Mr Steven Kreutter, Director, Supply Chain Management, Eastman Kodak
Mr Iyad Kamal, Chief Logistics Officer, Aramex
Mr Benjamin Gordon, Managing Director, BG Strategic Advisors

Mr Robert Ware, Director, Global Logistics, Dell Global

14.00 – 15.30
Session 3 – Meeting Customers Needs: Beyond Infrastructure & IT

Investment in IT and infrastructure has never been higher than the last decade for the supply chain industry. While the global spent has been growing, Asia is rising fast as the major component of this spent. Yet, is such an investment in direct relation to what the users need and expect? What exactly are customers seeking to achieve that IT and infrastructure cannot meet? Or are we looking at the wrong places in relations to what IT and infrastructure should provide in terms of meeting the users basic needs and requirements?

Moderator: Mr Allen Fukada, Vice President, Sales & Marketing, YCH Group
Speakers:
Mr Han Kian Kwang, Regional Director, Dematic SEA
Mr Lorcan Sheehan, Senior Vice President, ModusLink
Mr Samir Kochhar, Executive Director, Regional Supply Chain, Johnson & Johnson Asia Pacific
Mr Henry Kwang, Director, Microsoft Asia Pacific Operations
Dr John Gattorna, Adjunct Professor, Macquarie Graduate School of Management
Mr Saj Kumar, Vice President, Discrete Manufacturing, SAP Asia

16.00 – 17.30
Session 4 – Next Generation Supply Chain Leaders: Poach or Groom
This is fast becoming “old stories” for the supply chain industry in Asia. Talent shortage is one thing but the ability to groom, train and retain talent is really the major issue in ensuring that the industry maintains a certain level of standard. Even then, talent alone may not be enough to move the industry to the next level of professionalism as long as the passion and belief in this industry remains a “back-room” operation for many organizations. What next for the Supply Chain industry in Asia in relation to talent management and what more should be done to grow and groom enough professionals to make them as recognize as lawyers, medical doctors, accountants and engineers?

Moderator: Mr Torbjorn Karlsson, Principal Consultant, Heidrick & Struggles
Speakers:
A/P Mark Goh, Director, Industry Research, The Logistics Institute, Asia Pacific
Dr Pieter JA Nagel, Professor & Director, Institute for Logistics & Supply Chain Management, Victoria University
Mr Durairaj Veeraiyah, Senior Manager, Asia Pacific, BASF East Asia Regional Headquarters
Prof Martin West, Director, School of Information Systems, Curtin University
